Thank you to all of those who came to the symposium on East Asian Thought and Modern Politics held at UCD on the 3rd April. The event was well attended and we had a great day of discussion.
For those who were unable to attend or who would like to hear the talks again, audio recordings are now available.
In the order of presentation, they are:
- Introduction by Kenn Nakata Steffensen followed by Graham Parkes “Under the Circumstances, what are we to do now? Reforming Democracy with Plato and the Confucians
- Ouyang Xiao “Is Confucian Meritocracy an Antidote to Populism?”
- Kenn Nakata Steffensen “Uchimura Kanzo’s ‘Story of Denmark’: From Meiji Utopia to Showa Ideology and Full Circle?”
- David Williams “North Korea and Brexit as Intellectual Crises: The Celtic Fringe and the Closing of the Anglo-American Mind”
A short video of the event will be uploaded to this site in the near future.
